8 Hours of Cannonsburg Breakdown.

Saturday's 8 Hours of Cannonsburg Race was great. The trail conditions were perfect. The weather was almost perfect. As soon as Brent said "Go!" @ 10am, it started raining. However, it only rained for about 20 minutes or so, and it was really light. Plus, since most of the course is in the thick forest singletrack, most of the racers were sheltered by the trees. It rained again about 12:00-ish for a few minutes and then the sun came out for the rest of the day.

I finished 2nd with 11 laps in the Individual 30-39 category.

My race was going well until about 4:30. Since I heavily favor my right leg, especially climbing, it started cramping about half-way through the lap. I still had three long hard climbs on the ski hill and my inner thigh, outer knee tendon, and my calf muscle all started cramping. Not just cramping, but locking up. I made it back to my car at 5:00 and drank 24 oz of Gatorade, 12 oz of plain water, and ate two Clif bars while sitting letting my leg rest. I sat for about 10 minutes and headed out again. Surprisingly, my leg didn't cramp at all on lap #10.

When I get back to the start/finish I checked the lap count. There were three of us tied for 1st place with 10 laps. So at 5:50, I headed back out for one more lap before the 6:00 cut off.

I finished lap #11 with a little bit of more cramping, but it wasn't enough to keep me from moving like the previous time.

It was a nice way to finish my final race in Michigan. Brent gives out pretty nice prizes too. The baseball jersey was nice instead of a medal that would just go in a box in the closet.
